The challenge

Employability skills are built early and mostly ignored

The skills that later look like employability — communication, creativity, grit, teamwork — form in childhood. Most products still treat those years as extra-curricular, not as something you can design for.

Features include a mobile app with game-based learning across skill categories, so children practise rather than watch.

  • General
  • 45–50%

of a child’s developmental foundation is set in the early years.

  • 80%

of career success is attributed to soft skills rather than technical knowledge.

  • 80%

of parents want structured extra-curriculars, but few have a clear path.

  • 85%

of institutions still measure children on academics alone.

The solution

Three spaces, one platform

One product holding a creative space, a learning app, and a social layer — so making, practising and sharing sit together.

  • THE SPACE

A creative digital space where children publish work, not just complete tasks.

  • THE APP

A gamified learning platform — activities, trophies, and progress across skill categories.

  • CIRCLE

A private social layer. Share with family and chosen networks, not an open feed.

Product / Features

Designed and named ‘Circles’ — the app’s social layer

Circles lets families upload children’s achievements and creatives into networks they choose — secure sharing without a public feed. The concept was named and designed by the product team.

Circles product expansion: concentric avatars, a phone submit flow, and a parent review.

Design system

Gamification built to scale

Awards map to skill categories and ranks, so the system can grow without inventing a new metaphor each time. Champion badges follow each category’s colour; Expert, Master, Intermediate and Beginner mark how far a child has come.

Hexagonal champion awards for Physical, Socio emotional, Creativity, Cognitive, and Language skills.
Trophy ranks Expert, Master, Intermediate and Beginner, shown in the KidEx app.
