Smallfolks

Client brief: A stylish portfolio that showcases our work in an interesting bold and captive visuals. Contact form for direct emails from clients. Modern aesthetics, minimal text, approachable design.

Requirement: The website must be built on Squarespace for easy content management and publishing.

Client interview: The experience was structured around four key user goals:

• View previous work
• Understand services
• Explore the studio and facilities
• Contact or book the team

Market analysis: Analysed creative production studios and portfolio websites to identify common patterns and opportunities. The goal was to move away from generic agency layouts and create a more editorial, image-led experience that helps Smallfolks stand out.

Mood board/ Aesthetics: The visual design was chosen to work with highly artistic and colour graded images and videos that needs to stand out and hence the dark theme to bring maximum contrast and effect. Inspired by the studio/cinematic effect of Netflix UI.

UI design: Brand personality was established where each page exudes confidence and creativity by standing out with large fonts and bold colours inspired by the logo of Smallfolks.

Challenges: The main challenge for the project was the limited flexibility in customisation due to the restriction of the deliverables bound to Squarespace. Custom code was mostly reduced due to this factor. However, the Studio page was custom coded to enable a Tabbed menu.

Output: Delivered a distinctive, responsive website that gives Smallfolks a stronger digital identity for a growing studio.
